Zpacks Altaplex Tent -  is the ultimate choice for solo backpackers up to 198 cm (6’6”) seeking a versatile and reliable shelter. This single-person tent is designed with simplicity and functionality in mind.

Setting up the Altaplex is a breeze, requiring just a single trekking pole, typically adjusted to 142-147 cm. In windy conditions, it's recommended to use 10 stakes (minimum 6) for secure anchoring, ensuring your peace of mind in challenging weather.
One of the standout features of the Altaplex is its storm doors, which can be independently opened for ventilation or securely closed for rain protection using metal hooks. You won't have to worry about door zippers failing over time, a common concern with many tents.

Inside the tent, you'll find ample vestibule space, perfect for stashing wet gear behind the closed storm door. The screen door features a convenient rainbow zipper that drops inward, staying out of your way. Even when the doors are open, the canopy overhangs the floor and screen doors by 12 cm, providing excellent rain protection. For added convenience, Stick-on Magnet Toggles are available to upgrade the door closures.

The tent is thoughtfully designed to prevent condensation from reaching the floor with its sloped screen. It boasts a solid 20 cm tall bathtub floor, offering plenty of space for both you and your gear. You'll also appreciate the mesh pocket near the door, keeping your essentials within easy reach.

One notable advantage of the Altaplex is that it doesn't require a separate groundsheet, although flat groundsheets are available if you prefer added protection. This tent is highly wind-resistant and can withstand gusts up to 100 km/h. The Dyneema Composite Fabric used in its construction is not only incredibly lightweight but also naturally waterproof and free from harmful chemicals.

Zpacks stands behind the quality of their gear, offering a two-year limited warranty on all their products. And to top it off, the Altaplex Tent is proudly made in the USA, ensuring quality craftsmanship.

In summary, the Zpacks Altaplex Tent is a lightweight, single-person backpacking tent that embodies the spirit of ultralight outdoor gear that Zpacks is known for.

MATERIAL

Canopy: .75 oz/sqyd Dyneema® Composite Fabric. This canopy material has a higher Dyneema® thread count which gives it a higher tear strength relative to their standard .55 oz/sqyd canopy material. Many thru-hikers like this feature for added peace of mind.  It is also a bit thicker and darker than the standard weight. It is less transparent and offers more privacy.

Floor: 1 oz/sqyd DCF floor

Guylines: 2mm guy lines

Dyneema® Composite Fabric has several advantages over other materials:

  • High strength to weight ratio – the material can handle high wind force and does not tear easily.
  • Chemical free, PFC free
  • Waterproof – there is no DWR or coating to worry about wearing out. The material will not absorb significant water that will add water weight to your pack
  • Stretch-free – the tent will stay taut all night. Nylon material by comparison can stretch and sag, especially if it gets wet.
  • Taped seams – our seams are sewn for strength then taped water tight. The tie outs have bonded reinforcements for high strength. No seam sealing will be necessary!
  • Easily repairable – Any damage can easily be fixed in the field with our Dyneema® Composite Fabric Repair Tape.
  • This tent is semi-transparent. In bright sunlight, a fuzzy silhouette of a person sitting inside the tent would be visible, but you cannot see any details. It has a suitable amount of privacy for changing clothes.
  • In lower light (such as in the evening or at night), you cannot see through at all. Another nice thing about this material is that you can see the outlines of trees and your surroundings for a more immersed outdoor experience.

TOTAL WEIGHT:
467 g | 16.5 oz includes guy lines, sewn in linelocs, taped seams, and a stuff sack.

A piece of repair tape and two spare zipper sliders are included with each tent.

The storm doors can be opened or closed independently. Leave one or two doors open in nice weather for a breeze and great views. Close the upwind door to block cold wind, or close both for 360° rain protection. The overlapping doors are closed with custom made metal hooks, with a toggle at the center to keep them pinned.
Overlapping storm doors allow for a small amount of airflow without the need for additional venting. There are no zippers on the doors that could potentially fail over time.
A single closed storm door creates enough vestibule space for storing a wet backpack or muddy shoes, if you don't want to bring them into the tent.
The screen door has a rainbow zipper which allows easy entry regardless of which storm door is closed. You can access the vestibule area on either side. The screen door conveniently drops inwards rather than hanging in your way. No need to roll it up or secure it.
The canopy overhangs the bathtub floor and the screen doors by 12 cm (4-5 inches). In calm rain or under dripping trees the doors can be left open for air flow without water dripping on the floor space. In almost all conditions, at least one downwind door can be left open for air.
Stick on Magnet Toggles are also available for those looking to upgrade their storm door closing mechanism.
For even better rain protection with a door open, use the included elastic cords to pull the screen door back away from the rain spray as seen in the photo gallery.
There is screen between the bathtub floor and the walls around the perimeter. An elastic cord keeps the bathtub elevated, ensuring the screen slopes downwards away from the bathtub. Any condensation, which single wall shelters may experience, will run down the walls and out through the downward sloping screen, rather than onto the floor. Click here for tips to avoid condensation.
This tent has a seamless, sewn in 17 cm (6.75 inch) tall bathtub floor. The bathtub floor is a rectangle 102cm wide by 2.3m long (40" x  90"). Plenty of space for a wide sleeping pad with room to stretch out plus space for gear beside you.
If you are particularly tall, you might try propping up the side guylines using Trekking Pole Cups for even more headroom.
A Mesh pocket is conveniently located near the door so that it can be accessed from inside or outside the tent. It is a good place to store your cell phone, glasses, headlamp, the tent stuff sack, and spare seam tape (included). The pocket is about 20 cm x 15 cm ( 8" x 6").
A separate groundsheet is not required for this shelter. The floor material is reasonably durable, and all Dyneema® Composite Fabric gear can be easily patched in the field with repair tape (included). If you do prefer to use a groundsheet as a precaution, Flat Groundsheets are available.
All of our tents do pretty well in the wind 100 km/h (60 mph) gusts are no problem. The material can handle high wind loads, and as long as your stakes stay in the ground (use rocks if available) your tent will stay standing. Dyneema® Composite Fabric is not particularly noisy, however almost any tent will make a little noise in the wind. Earplugs are not a bad idea for windy nights.

Integrated 2,5 cm thick foam back panel

good quality
Format: Hardcover, Format: Hardcover
Content is top notch as always. My 5-stars go mainly to reflect print quality of the book. Text is nice and clear, binding is done in proper cloth spine binding as you would expect from hardcover edition. Ordered my book on Feb 5th, 2019 and received it on Feb 11th, 2019. The book feels solid not like to fall apart right away. No issues like those reported for "Real-Time Rendering, 4th Edition" or "Physically Based Rendering: From Theory to Implementation 3rd Edition" or "3D Math Primer for Graphics and Game Development, 2nd Edition". This one is a keeper, so sad some other CG books had to go beacuse of the quality "issues".

An Invaluable Book
Format: Hardcover, Format: Hardcover
Game Engine Architecture" by Jason Gregory has proven to be a treasure trove of knowledge, especially in the realms of lower-level computer programming and the inner workings of CPUs. The first third of the book, which I have thoroughly enjoyed, dives deep into the intricacies of memory management and concurrent programming. Gregory’s explanations are so lucid and engaging that the complex concepts of memory orders such as relaxed, release, and acquire have become clear to me, showcasing their critical roles in programming. What is particularly remarkable is how the book's first 400 pages serve not just as a guide to game engine architecture, but also stand on their own as an excellent introduction to computer science. It's a testament to the author's skill in distilling complex material into digestible content that even those without a vested interest in game development would find immense value in. However, a caveat I must mention is the book's physical heft. Its size and bulk make it somewhat unwieldy, and I learned this the hard way when it fell from my desk. The impact caused the page binding to tear away from the hard cover, which was disappointing considering the book's cost. Nevertheless, with some craftiness involving thick drawing paper and glue, I managed to repair it. If the author adds any more information to the next edition, it'd probably be best to turn this into a 2-3 volume set to manage the size. Despite this setback, the book remains an invaluable resource. Its depth and clarity are unmatched, making it a worthy addition to any tech enthusiast's library. Just be sure to handle it with care.

Much thicker than I expected!
Format: Hardcover
This book is massive and could easily be split into two or three volumes, which is great because it covers a very deep topic. It will be a while before I read the book from cover to cover, but the few chapters I've skipped to were able to help me immediately on some problem areas in a game engine that I built last year. I would definitely recommend this to anyone interested in video game development.

Kickstarts your knowledge of game dev
Format: Hardcover
This book hits on all cylinders, condensing decades of actionable knowledge about game development into a single source. There's a lot more to game dev than what's in this book, but this gives fantastic usable detail on many subjects and gets you oriented with and pointed in the right directions for the few it doesn't.
